How to use the mute switch on the iPad

0

Are you missing sound from some of your apps on the iPad? It probably has to do with your mute switch / rotation lock settings. Sometimes these settings can get tangled up, here’s how to untangle them!

1. Open the settings icon.

2. Change the side switch from locking rotation to operating mute. You can change it back later.

3. Now try the app again and you should have sound.

Or try this SHORTCUT:

Double click the home button. A menu of recently used apps will pop up at the bottom, swipe that menu from left to right to get you on a screen that will have a mute button icon. Press this icon and the mute will be disabled.

Why does this happen?

The switch on the side of your iPad, next to the volume buttons, can be used as either a mute switch or an orientation lock. If the mute switch was in the ON position when you switched it to orientation lock, the device will be stuck on mute. This can be confusing because not all applications incorporate the mute switch, so you could have a situation where some apps have sound and others do not, and no amount of messing with the volume buttons or side switch helps. Well now you know what to do!
